What is a POS (Point of Sale) system?
A Point-of-Sale (POS) system is an integrated, full-featured system designed to handle all “Storefront” (aka brick-and-mortar) needs of the merchant. In the old days, a POS was just the cash register. You can think of a POS like a cash register with a brain. Nowadays, most merchant point of sale systems run on a computer or tablet, and offer the following features:
- Credit card processing
- Cash-drawer management for cash sales
- Receipt printing
- Inventory system for tracking merchandise
- Barcode scanning
- Employee timeclocks
- Business reporting and analytics
Choosing a good POS system is important. As a storefront business, it’s a big change to make when upgrading your POS, due to the time it takes to implement, training of your employees, and cash outlays for new hardware. As such – we at Dharma recommend choosing a trusted partner who has a reputation for great customer support. Dharma can integrate with most POS systems on the market, but has chosen to promote one in particular. We recommend using the Clover Mini system, due to the low cost, high feature sets, and fantastic customer support.
