Featured Merchant: Thanksgiving Coffee
This month we’re thrilled to feature Thanksgiving Coffee, a fellow family-run business here in Northern California. Started in 1972, Thanksgiving Coffee has been dedicated to community, fair trade, the highest-quality coffee and the well-being of their farming partners since the beginning, even suing Regan, Bush and Meese to end the embargo on Nicaragua (and shipping their “Coffee for Peace” from Nicaragua into the US through Cananada in defiance of the embargo). They were the first to commit to 100% organic and create the country’s first certified shade grown coffee. They were the second licensee to sign with TransFair USA, the only certifying agency of Fair Trade coffee in the U.S. Another highlight of their history was partnering with the Peace Kawomera Cooperative, a cooperative of 250 Jewish, Christian, and Muslim coffee farmers in Uganda. From that partnership Thanksgiving Coffee created the Mirembe Kawomera “Delicious Peace” Coffee and marketed it to faith-based communities, establishing the foundation for an interfaith movement of churches, synagogues, and mosques working to support the Muslim, Christian, and Jewish farmers of the Peace Kawomera Cooperative in Uganda. Supporting amazing work like this is a dream come true for us, and we are so grateful to support Thanksgiving Coffee.
